Community Spotlight: Mikah Williams
On our social media, we give community members the opportunity to share their stories with us. This week, we had the opportunity to learn more about Mikah Williams of Elkton, Maryland.
Mikah is a seven-year-old boy who was first diagnosed with autism at age two. Prior to diagnosis, Mikah’s mother, Jessica, recalls not knowing much about autism. His diagnosis was hard on the family initially, as they did not know what to expect from this disorder, coupled with Mikah’s constant tantrums. Jessica remembers being sad and scared of autism; it broke their hearts. Now, however, the family has adjusted extremely well.
Mikah is now in the second grade and loves going to school. He has lots of different hobbies, such as playing with his friends, riding his scooter, and playing all types of sports. Jessica describes Mikah as being very unique and proud of all that he accomplishes. “He will do pretty much anything anyone else is doing and he surprises me every day with how much he has learned,” says his proud mom.
