5 DIY Sensory-Friendly Valentine's Day Crafts

Valentine’s Day is a holiday to spread love and happiness to those you care for. As Valentine’s Day approaches, we have some sensory friendly crafts that will help you and your little love bug express feelings of love and appreciation with those around you.

 
 

1. Heart Dogs

What you need:

  • Construction paper in 2 colors

  • Pom poms in 2 colors

  • Googly eyes

  • Scissors

  • Glue

Step 1: Draw a large heart on one piece of paper, two smaller hearts and a tongue on another piece of paper

Step 2: Cut the hearts and tongue out of the paper

Step 3: Glue one ear at the top of one side of the large heart and then the other on the opposite side

Step 4: Take 2 googly eyes and glue them in between the two ears

Step 5: Glue the tongue close to the bottom of your large heart

Step 6: Grab 1 pom pom to be the nose and 2 of the same color to be the dog’s mouth

Step 7: Glue the nose below the eyes and the last two pom poms below the nose

 
 

2. Love Bugs

  • What you need:

  • Pom poms

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Felt or Foam hearts

  • Glue

  • Scissors

Step 1: Put a dot of glue on the point of the felt/foam heart

Step 2: Press a pom pom onto the felt/foam heart so your love bug has feet and a body

Step 3: Once dry, take 2 googly eyes and glue them to be the face of your love bug

Step 4: Cut your pipe cleaner to the length you want your love bug’s antennae to be

Step 5: Glue the antennae to your love bug’s head

Get creative! You can bend your pipe cleaners into different shapes to give your love bug’s each their own unique look. You can even glue small hearts at the tips of your love bug’s antennae.

 
 

3. Love Lion Card

What you will need:

  • Construction paper in 3 or more colors

  • A marker or crayon

  • Scissors

  • Glue

Step 1: Choose a piece of paper to be your card and fold it in half

Step 2: Draw an oval on the front of the card

Step 3: Give your lion an oval nose, two small eyes, and some whisker spots

Step 4: Take two or more colors of colored paper and cut them into little hearts (You should have 12 total!)

Step 5: Glue the tips of the hearts around the lion's head to form his mane

Step 6: Write a little message on your card and then you are ready to give the Love Lion away

 
 

4. Sensory Bags

What you will need:

  • Ziploc bags

  • Paints

  • A marker

Step 1: Draw a heart on the Ziploc bag

Step 2: Take 1 color and squeeze it inside one side of the bag

Step 3: Repeat with another color on the other side of the bag

Step 4: Close up the bag and it is ready to be squished!

This is a fun little craft not just for Valentine’s day, but also to learn what colors can be made when mixing other colors together.

5. Valentine’s Day Hands Card

What you will need:

  • Construction paper

  • Markers or crayons

  • Glue

  • Scissors

Step 1: Choose which paper you want to be the card and then fold it in half

Step 2: Place your hand along the folded edge and trace it

Step 3: Cut out the tracing of your hand (When you open the card now it will be shaped like your hands)

Step 4: Cut out a heart from another piece of paper

Step 5: Write a note on the heart and fold it in half

Step 6: Glue your heart on the inside of your card where you folded

Now your card is ready to be gifted!
