Virtual Summer Camps for Children with Autism

In light of COVID-19, summer camps for school age children around the world will remain closed. In an effort to help children as much as they can, camps are pivoting to offer virtual camp experiences, allowing campers to participate in summer programs from home.

We’ve put together a list of virtual autism-friendly camps to help your child have an amazing summer camp experience from home:

  • The Help Group's STEM Virtual Camp: It’s a two-week summer camp online for children ages 7 to 13 with high functioning autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and other social and learning differences.

  • Camp Sunshine: is a structured program for children, teens, and young adults between the ages of 6 and 21 who have moderate to severe autism spectrum disorder and other special needs. The campers will enjoy fun and enriching activities in a safe and nurturing environment via Zoom. Campers build confidence and self-esteem, practice important life skills, and take steps toward independence while making new friends and having fun.

  • Village Glen Camp: is a highly specialized social skills camp developed for children between the ages of 6 and 14 with high functioning autism spectrum disorders and other social challenges.

  • Camp Budd Connect: is a virtual special needs summer camp. It will offer kids with special needs the opportunity for social interaction, physical activity, personal connection, and fun, all while safely social distancing at home.

  • Brainy Camps: It will have virtual sessions for all campers. They will have small breakout sessions where they can choose the activities they’re interested in. They also will have the opportunity to participate in support groups led by our clinical psychologist and clinical social worker, as well as educational sessions led by medical experts in the conditions we serve.

If you’re looking for animation, music theater, acting workshops, photography, dance classes and the opportunity to build reading skills for your child you can find some amazing summer camps for that below:

  • Exceptional Minds: is a studio focused on individuals with autism that wants to teach how to create special effects for movies or video game design. This summer Exceptional Minds is partnering with the Cartoon Network for an internship program and will have two camps for kids on the spectrum ages 12 and up. It’s a two-week camp that will be online and you can choose what you want to learn along with fun electives.

  • Music Together: Music Together’s virtual classes are for kids of all ages and it will be full of singing and play.

  • Atwater Photo Workshop: Kids with disabilities could love taking pictures so they can express their creativity and artistic skills. They will learn the basics of good photography in three sessions throughout the day. This camp runs for 5 days at a time, and each day has a different theme. Weekly camps will begin June 15, and they’re open to kids between the ages of 8 and 16 years old.

  • The Miracle Project offers accessible musical theater, acting and other arts classes to those on the spectrum and other young people with disabilities.

  • Segerstrom Center for the Arts: Kids between the ages of 4 and 22 years will learn dance and musical concepts accompanied by live music. All the dance moves can be adapted to the needs of each student, and every class includes building imagination, dance, music, joy and social connection.
