Ben Paramore’s hobby of spotting flickering and burned out street lights in his Saltash, United Kingdom neighborhood, has led the Cornwall Council to dedicate a lamp post to him.

The 12-year-old and his dad have a tradition of taking a stroll in the evenings to check on the street lights. The pair then report the broken lights to the Cornwall Council via an online portal so that engineers can fix them, according to the Cornwall Council website.

Paramore has autism and his mom Jane Paramore says he is fascinated by street lights. “He wants to know everything about them, like are they heavy, why do they move in the wind,” his mom said in the article.

Paramore’s mom originally reached out to the Cornwall Council organization Together for Families to get a lamp post dedicated to her son. Friends, neighbors, council staff and engineers from the Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) attended the unveiling of the plaque months later.

The plaque located on Smiths Way in Latchbrook, Saltash reads “This lamp post is dedicated to Ben Paramore. Thanks for helping to look after the local street lights.”

SSE engineers also gifted Paramore with his own safety helmet and neon safety vest.

“It was such an amazing thing to happen for Ben; the smile on his face said it all,” Jane said in the Cornwall government website article. “It was also lovely to see the community who came out to support us.”
