Kahlief Hill is a hotel worker who works at the front desk of the Hampton Inn in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. An amazing friendship began here in March 29, 2019 when Colin Haas’s, a then 13-year-old boy, asked Hill if he could show him a card trick. Hill, with pleasure, stopped working to see the boys card trick, and then Hill replied to this by showing him his own card trick.

Haas mom, Megan Griffin, took a picture of them while they were practicing the card tricks together. She then posted the picture on her Facebook for everyone could see Hill’s sympathy and compassion towards her son without him knowing that Haas had autism. The picture immediately went viral and made Hill an overnight hero.

“He very easily could have told Colin he was busy, or to come back later, or any number of things, but he didn’t. He allowed Colin to hang out at the desk with him for what felt like forever, watching Colin do card tricks and then showing Colin some tricks that he knew as well. Kahlief paused when he needed to, like when his phone rang or some customer came in and he never once made Colin feel like he was a nuisance or a burden,” said Griffin to The Epoch Times.

The next night, Hill was working at the front desk again, and when he saw Haas he asked how he was doing with the magic trick. Haas replied that he had a little trouble remembering the details, so Hill showed it to him again.

“He didn’t know that this little boy lost his dad a few years ago and has been on the waiting list for a ‘big brother’ for well over two years now. I love and live for feel good moments like this,” said Griffin to The Epoch Times.

Hill got very emotional, even crying, when he saw the viral Facebook post. He immediately took to Facebook, thanking Griffin for her caring words. Hill and Haans have only met once, but they are now Facebook friends. “Kahlief was putting together a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s for autism awareness and invited Colin to come,” said Griffin to The Epoch Times.

Haas’ family lives over an hour away from the hotel were Hill works, but everyone hopes that their bond will continue in the future.
