5 Summer Sensory-Friendly Crafts
With summer right around the corner, here is a list of five crafts to get your kids in the mood for summer fun time! There’s a number of ways to beat the heat or avoid summer storms, spend some time getting creative and engaging with your kids in an educational activity.
1. Paper Plate Jellyfish
Materials:
Paper plates
Tissue paper
Glue
Yarn
Googly eyes
A marker
Hole punch
Instructions:
Cut or tear the tissue paper into small squares
Draw a wavy line at the bottom of the paper plate and cut along that line
Glue the tissue paper onto the plate
Use a hole punch to make several holes along the bottom line of the plate
Cut yarn strands of the same length and thread the yarn through the holes at the bottom of the
Tie the yarn once through the holes
Glue on googly eyes and use a marker to draw a mouth
2. DIY Bubble Wands
Materials:
Pipe Cleaners
Colorful beads
Cookie Cutters Shapes
Scissors
Instructions:
Wrap one end of the pipe cleaner around the cookie cutter to form the shape of the cookie cutter
At the end of the shape wrap the remaining pipe cleaner section around the shape a few times to close it shut
Thread the bubble wand handle with colorful beads
At the bottom of the pipe cleaner with your beads, fold the pipe cleaner end up to secure the beads in place
Tip: To make a larger bubble wand, wrap one end of the pipe cleaner onto the end of another pipe cleaner
3. Aquarium in a Bottle
Materials:
Sand
Empty bottle
Small ocean animal toys
Water
Optional:
Blue food coloring
Shells
Instructions:
Fill the bottle with approximately 2 inches of sand
Fill the bottle with water (Overflow the water bottle if the sand creates dust in the water so the dust runs out)
Add small shells and a drop of blue food coloring to the water now if you would like
Add in small plastic sea creatures
4. Rainbow Blowers
Materials:
Paper Towel Tube/Toilet Paper Tube
Paint
Tissue Paper
Glue
Scissors
Instructions:
Paint the tube blue and then add clouds to look like the sky
Cut strips of the tissue paper
Glue the strips inside the tube
5. Beach Themed Sensory Bins
Materials:
Sand
Shells
Tropical Paper Drink Umbrellas
Plastic Sea Creatures
Colored Water Beads
Scoops/Strainers
Simply put these items in bins and enjoy!
